My Favorite Four Letter Word

My Favorite Four Letter Word By Charlie Page

I have a confession to make … I LOVE words. I love to use them. Love to learn new ones.

I especially love to find just the right combination of words that convey exactly what I mean and cause people to respond in ways that are profitable for everyone.

And I love using four letter words too! Many of you know that I’m a Christian, which begs the question – how can you love four letter words?

It’s not THAT kind of work I’m talking about!  :-)

I love four letter words because some of the most powerful words in the English language are four letter words! Now I don’t pretend to be a scholar. Far from it; I never even went to college! But when it comes to using words to communicate and persuade I’ve been around the block a time or two. Makes me glad I lived this long!

After over 35 years of choosing my words very carefully I have made a list of my favorite four letter words. I share that list below.

Please feel free to leave a comment and share with me your favorite four letter word. And please add they “why” – why is your four letter word your favorite? Please keep all comments PG rated. This is a family friendly blog!  :-)

My favorite four letter word is …

HELP

Why help? Because I have discovered over the years that I love (another favorite) to help people. I shut down my consulting practice so I could give DOE members my time on the phone. The result? More members than ever helped! I like that.

I created this blog to house all the articles I’ve written and videos I have made so there would be one place you could go and quickly get some helpful information free. While we are not finished yet, it’s coming along and people are getting help. I like that too.

Another favorite? Call me a softy but it’s love. Why? Because the love of a good woman changed my life when I was but 19 years old and uplifts me every day. 35 years later and it’s like day 1. Only love can do that. I know the author of love by the way, and He makes my days long, profitable and worth living. Hope you know Him too.

Here’s my list. I can’t list them all because it would take so long to read them all. So I’m going to list one per letter and give you my A – Z of four letter words.

Enjoy!

ABLE – I believe most people are capable of so much but they don’t see themselves as ABLE to get things done. My advice; stop looking at limitations – you are able to get the job done.

BUZZ – I am unashamedly in the business of promoting my products and helping members promote theirs. That takes buzz, and I love to generate buzz for members!

CORE - I believe anyone can succeed in business if they learn and master a core set of skills. Copywriting, email marketing, advertising – learn these and you will never go hungry again.

DUTY – I’m an old fashioned guy who believes we all have a duty to perform to our fellow man. That duty? Love and help! (How square is that?)

EDGE – As an online marketer I am always looking for an edge. When you find that edge big things begin to happen quickly.

FELT – Selling is about emotion. I often ask customers how they felt when something specific happened. I get weird looks, but I learn.

GLAD – The best advice I’ve read in a long time is to “be glad continually”. There is so much to be happy about.

HEAR – When others speak we sometimes listen but do we really hear? Hearing others is a beautiful thing.

ICON – There are icons we can learn from. Seth Godin, Bob Proctor, Zig Ziglar … thank you!

JOIN – I love joining things that are real and bring value to others. What a rush when things are new and possibilities endless.

KNOW – Knowing things matters. Never never stop learning.

LIST – I love lists. Love making them. Love checking them off. Love using them to get things done.

MUSE – Everyone needs inspiration. Find yours and stay connected.

NERD – Love ‘em or hate ‘em, your business ultimately works because of a nerd. Plus, it’s fun to say.

ONCE – Weird choice? Here’s why I love “once”. If I can do something successfully once I can do it again and again. This is the basis of all success in business.

PRAY - Couldn’t make it through a day without this one!

QUIZ – Want to know what customers really want? Quiz them.

ROUX – Hey, I’m from Louisiana!

SELL – Love to sell. Love to sell things for members and watch as they earn their first money online. That’s fun!

TEAM – When you find the right team anything is possible!

UNDO – I love it when someone can undo their failure and turn it into success. Damage can be undone. New beginnings are possible!

VERB - The most important part of copywriting? Use MORE verbs!

WANT – The most important part of selling? Find out what people want, not what they need.

X - I will happily admit that I don’t have one for X. Do you?

YEAR – When I was 25 they seemed so long. Now they seem much shorter. Decide to make this year YOUR year!

ZINE – Ezines changed my life and bring me thousands of visitors a day. For me it’s the ONLY “Z” word that matters!  :-)

So what’s your favorite four letter word?

Happily married for 40 years, Charlie is the dad to two wonderful daughters. He is the author of 12 books on Internet marketing and owner of The Directory of Ezines, Follow Up Selling Systems, Common Sense Blog Blueprint and other membership sites.

      Hi Charlie,
Excellent post……. I have many 4 letter words that I like to use, yet there is 2 that are very similar and I use the most. I believe that these 2 words are used the most in the English language and is used (thought and/or verbal) at least once per day and understood in a lot of other languages.
Live – depending on the context, gives a powerful message/statement and carries a lot of emotion.
Life – sums up peoples experiences very quickly and sets the stage and context of the story. Be it of a character or the person themselves.
I also like a 3 letter word, that if you see it as an acronym, then it delivers an extremely powerful message.
      ALL – Awareness Loves Life
Thank you for your time and awesome info.

      Hi Charlie,
      My favourite word is HOPE.
If you have hope you have a chance at anything you can imagine.
Work hard at it and leave the rest in the hands of God.

Hey charlie, that was grand! I have to read this blog twice.
I think nobody can escape using 4 letter words!
Yeah some are atrocious and ugly.
But as Christians try to avoid them.
      Jesus was another word lover.
Nobody had used better than Him and his father
      this 4 letter word: LOVE!

Congrats Charlie! Some many had responded!
Love to read also the comments!
The blog is indeed coming along well.
So many tidbits on how to do internet marketing.
Hey “softie!” I like the paragraph where you talk
about you and your wife. That is lovely!
Please show a picture with her and your daughters.
By the way… do you write poetry?
So much poetry in the Bible is display!
      God bless!

      Great post!
My favorite four letter word is “calm”
In any given situation, I find ways to stay calm and centered. That is what inspires me to take action towards my goal.

      • Charlie Page

That’s a great word! Meaningful action does come from a place of calm – I agree with that one!

        Charlie

Liked this article Mr. Page and another word that could be add is
“Able”. This is because being able to do something is a gift that should be cherished.

Amen to that! Being grateful for what we can do empowers us to do more.

Hi Charlie – my four letter word is COME. I am always saying to my children “COME on – we must do this or that”, but it speaks mostly of Jesus’ open invitation to all – COME – he accepts everyone no matter what their, socio-economic background, class, gender etc. He places none of the criteria we place on accepting people. He just says “come”. I love that about Jesus and about the God of the Bible who came up with such a wonderful plan of salvation!

Hello Charlie Page, I have been a fulltime DOE member a couple of months and I consider finding you and DOE on the vast World Wide Web a GOD thing. After floundering around on the Internet for over two years and being sucked-in and buying my share of “snake oil” I was beginning to loose faith. I felt like Little Richard “Slippin’ and a Sliddin” all over the place and not getting anywhere.

Early on, I detected that you was a Christian; what a rare commodity on the Internet. You are a breath of fresh air. I haven’t talked with you yet but hope to soon. Your articles and videos have begun to get me focused and on a GOAL (One of my favorite four letter words) seeking mission. I have begun to unsubscribe from the dozens of emails, etc. that I receive each day that steals valuable time. I have set a new ninety-day GOAL. I am focusing on your advice to work toward this short-range goal.

Also, I have recently discovered Jeff Mulligan, owner of CBmall. His interview with you was very enlightening. With yours and Jeff’s direction I will be focusing on affiliate marketing, article marketing and Ezine marketing to begin building an Internet business. HOPE is more alive than ever.

Some of my favorite four letter words are: GOAL, HOPE, LOVE, MUST (must do), NEED (There is so much need in the world. We need to become successful so we can HELP the needy.), PRAY (I agree with you without prayer and listening we are prone to go astray.), WORK – I love to work and love to make things work successfully. QUIT – As in never, never, never quit! ROSE – We must stop and smell the roses. SOLD – Nothing happens until something is SOLD. TEAM – I have finally chosen some good team members Charlie Page, Jeff Mulligan and GOD. With God all things are possible…only believe.
BELIEVE is not a four letter word but it is one of my most favorite words….

I hope to be talking with you soon and get some one on one direction.

      God bless us all…

      Luther

    • Howard Mahere

Great article on four letter words. I have never taken time to ponder on the meaning of many four letter words. My favourates are LOVE, PRAY, PLAN, PLAY AND STAY. I like the uncommon word ‘stay’ because history shows us that achievers were able to achieve their dream because they STAYED in the game. The staying power will help you not to throw in the towel….finish what you have started.

God bless you indeed , you have lots of wisdom.

      Howard Mahere

    • Tony Dakin

      Great article!!!

So many choices, it was hard to choose just one.

After much contemplation, my choice is: GOOD

All things can be accomplished when we choose to do/be GOOD to one other.

      God bless!!!

      Enjoy your day,

      Georges.

      Hi Charlie,

Another great post. My favourite four letter word is GIVE. I always get much more pleasure from giving than receiving (thought I also like to recieve). I am begining to see that if I give my customers more than they expect I can win loyalty, respect and sales!!

      Dear Charlie,

I wanted you to know that a few minutes ago I became a member of DOE. Before I did I committed this business ( this way of life) to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I made covenant with Him, that I would always give Him the Praise and Honor for giving me the ability to create wealth. Secondly, that I would give Him the First Fruits of what He provides, as He gives direction. Jesus came that we may have life and have it more abundantly. Incidently, PRAY is may favorite four letter word, because it brings LIFE, another of my favorites.

Thank you Charlie, I hope to be able to talk with you sometime.
May God bless you in Christ!

My wife came up with one for X: XOXO

Just in case you think the term is risque, here’s wikipedia’s take on it:

‘Hugs and kisses is a term for a sequence of the letters X and O, e.g. XOXO, typically to express affection or good friendship at the end of a written letter, email or SMS text message, in which, according to most sources, “o” means hugs and “x” means kisses.

I’m happy that my wife came up with that one ;)

      • Charlie

That’s a GREAT addition to the list! Thanks.

      Hello Charlie.
I am new to DOE. however, with
your mentoring, I will go from a
two and a half year stab at the
      World Wide Web making O$$$,
to, well we will leave that blank, for now!

Anyway, you seem to be my age and we both
are in the South, and your reference to “Christian”
brings me to my favorite four letter word. “God’s”
O k”, I know you are thinking, thats pluar.
We christians”see God as the Father, The Son, and
      The Holy Spirit!
Oh! and for X! I have three of them!!

Looking forward to a prospers journey.

      Hello Charlie,

GOSH… reading all these replies, there are more positive four letter words in our language than perhaps we all realised.

It’s a pity so many people in the world have to concentrate on the offensive ones.

I’m new to DOE and look forward to learning from a seasoned master just how to connect with people online.

Since I started writing articles, web copy and blog posts I too have come to enjoy using the written word much more.

I suppose my favourite four letter word at present has to be HOPE .

I HOPE that by connecting with you and your teachings it will help me to succeed and prosper online.

I also HOPE that I will persevere and not be tempted to give up before I have reached the point at which good fortune and success kicks in.

For that to happen I reckon that I’ll need a little more than LUCK to see me through.

      I HOPE that makes sense!

      All the best,

      Peter

Hi Charlie! My favorite new four letter word is PAGE! That`s because you have talked to me on the phone and TOLD me the truth about which direction I needed to go. Since talking to you I have started a new PAGE in my life and I am sure I have found my calling. We talked a couple of times & I know that you could TELL that I needed a lot of HELP! You EVEN SENT my money BACK cause you KNEW that I was not ready to take advantage of your services yet. I was just too green. I went to the library and got the books you suggested and they did HELP but most of the HELP came from your KIND words and the FREE membership to the DOE. Charlie, I don`t KNOW how you KNEW to send me THIS email on THIS particular day , when I needed it MOST ! I was contemplating calling you and asking for your advice and HELP with the mission that I am on WITH my friend and mentor Vic Hutchinson. We are working very HARD to FEED the Starving Children in the world ! It sounds like an impossible mission but we have already DONE so much and we HAVE barely EVEN started! Your HELP is what I am asking for. Please guide me DOWN the right PATH you think I should go. I am also a Christian but I HAVE people questioning THIS PATH I am taking, saying I am making money feeding the KIDS. I strongly disagree with them as I say the MORE money I MAKE the MORE KIDS I am ABLE to FEED! I believe God knows we are doing something for these starving children and is happy WITH us. I HAVE the greatest respect for Vic Hutchinson for his commitment and faith in THIS IDEA to FEED these starving KIDS. I am VERY proud to be PART of THIS mission and WILL never GIVE up on our GOAL which is to STOP world hunger!!! I KNOW you can HELP us in our LOVE for these KIDS. I LOOK forward to YOUR reply. May God bless us for our HELP, Michael Dashiell

      Hey Charlie,

This is such a cool article! I love it. How long did it take you to come out with all the four letter words?

I suppose the four letter word that I really need is HELP. As for what I expect from that is that I HOPE that I would succeed online. So that I would be able to HELP others choosing this path. At the end of the day, Of course I would want to LOVE what I’m doing.

      Sincerely,

      Bryan

How about the word ”WORK” without WORK there are no rewards in life in anything you do.
If the word WORK is missing from anything in life, then it does not warrant any
      attention.

    • Kathy Baldwin

MANY of my favorite 4 letter words have been used. I must say PRAY would be my first choice, saying Thank-You every day is important. HELP would come next. “My light must shine, I may be the only Bible that someone reads.” LOVE comes to mind.” Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Share your love, faith and hope everyday with your family, the people you work with, neighbors and the strangers you come across. “God made you and he doesn’t make mistakes.”

      Hello Charlie,

      You are the BEST!
      YOUR article was TOPS!
      You GIVE GOOD INFO!

In your search for an “X” WORD you could use:

“XRAY” – Each person online needs to mentally XRAY their online PLAN to keep them on the right PATH. If their GOAL is to have a FAST and EASY way to MORE CASH, they can GAIN that way of LIFE if they JOIN! JOIN something, WORK it, and STAY put. The ONLY ONES who LOSE are the ONES who QUIT!

      It’s TRUE.

Thanks, Charlie, for stimulating my MIND.

My favorite four letter word is PAGE, the guy who never stops giving.

    • Extra Money Makers

      Charlie,

You already hit on my favorite 4-letter word… JOIN. I just would like to expand on it if I may. I have found that the most positive and beneficial results in a person’s life can come about because of that one word… JOIN.

One of the best things that has ever happened to many peole is the day they got married and that preacher said “we are gathered here today to JOIN these two in holy matrimony”. If the marriage didn’t or does not work out, then one can JOIN a divorce group or single parent group for support and help in recovering from the failed marriage.

Can you count the number of celebrities and well known people who are that way because they were honored to JOIN that particular band, group, club, school, or society? When one’s life has spiralled out of control and they turned to alcohol or drugs but want to get their life back on track… they JOIN AA or addiction group.

How about when GOD said “where two or more are gathered in my name…” meaning that the results are positive and beneficial when one person JOIN with another person for one common goal or blessing. How many great meals has one had when they were invited to JOIN us for lunch, dinner, or supper?

How happy was one when they were honored and given the priviliage to JOIN their favorite soriety , club, or organization. How much was gained when one held hands to JOIN others in prayer or vigil? How did you feel when you finally graduated high school and got your first job to JOIN the ranks of the working class to be able to start living your own life? Better yet, how happy were you to when you were able to break free from the rat race and working class to JOIN the cottage industry, otherwise known as working for yourself or home based business?

As it is said and written, no man is an island unto himself… meaning that in order to reap th benefits of this life, one must JOIN with others.

My favorite 4-letter word is JOIN!

I am looking forward to reading your book, and learning from it! I guess the four letter word that I get from your blog, is hope. LOVE – because without it I would be nothing
MAKE – I want to MAKE my future brighter
HELP – I have a hard time asking for and I love to HELP people

      Charlie,

Wow, what a great article. Makes me think a little more about what’s really important in LIFE. I would say that LIFE is my most favorite four letter word and PRAY would be right there with it. So I’m torn between LIFE/PRAY and PRAY/LIFE.

Can I have an eight letter word? :-)

      Sincerely,

      Ernie Hodge

Charlie, your article just resonate with me… loving the power of four letter words tells a lot about you as a caring person who knows how good or bad can be done with just words….What a nice feeling of proud it is when you can shorten your phrases to the bare bone and yet the meaning remains unchanged and even better….

      Favorite word to say: WHY

      Favorite word to hear: YES

Rich people and Wealthy people have little in common.

Guru Salespeople and Professional Marketers or Online Entrepreneurs have just
one (1) thing in common: Big Lists! WHY does it take us a couple of YEARS online
      to figure that out?

GURU’s fool us while the Professionals Marketers wait patiently until we wake up.
WHY don’t they tell us? They do but you have to pay attention. We’ll be there when
we get here! Look! I think we’re finally here now!!

    • Dawn Miller

Awesome, article Charlie. You certainly have a gift! My favorite four letter word is Love. To me there is simply no emotion more powerful. Love of God, family, and friends are beyond a doubt the most powerful. Also, if you love what you are doing, you will always be more successful at it. That is why you are such a successful writer and mentor, because you love it so much. Thanks again for inspiring me–again:)

What a great blog! Thank you Charlie for making us think a bit differently.

I like many four letter words and most of them have already been shared by you or all who replied to your challenge. The one word that I like very much and live by that has not been mentioned yet (unless I missed it) is:

KIND – I appreciate kind people and I think the world would be a much better place if there was more kindness….

“Care”. This is one of my favorite letter words. Jim Rohn once said, “the more you care, the stronger you can be”. Thank you for the great article!

      Hey Charlie,
Great article, Loved it. My favorite four letter word if you can call it a four letter word is can’t. Because it is a motivational word for me. When somebody tells me I Can’t do something i reply to them watch me do it.

Charlie, I enjoyed reading your blog tonight. If I have one word I prefer above another It would be ‘hear’.
‘He causes me to ‘hear’ His loving kindness in the morning’. I am also a Christian.
Also, i joined your DOE right after you purchased it from – I believe it was Ruth Townsend. So, you see I have known you for quite some time.

      Brother Charlie,
I believe you have just breathed some new life into some old thoughts for some of us. Since Mark Moffett and Charles Kaluwasha used 2 of my favorites I am left with 2 others. That would be true and vine. Since you know me you know those are among my favorites because Jesus Christ is the TRUE VINE and I am one of the branches. However my most favorite word of all time, outside of forgiven, is not a 4 letter word it is STUFF. Just because it covers so much stuff, no matter what you may be talking about. I use it quite a bit when preaching but there again it is not a 4 letter word so I can’t use it here.

      Many Blessings,
      Clyde

My favorite word is MORE. There is a large definition – More time, More content, More traffic, More pateince, etc etc etc

run circles around many that did.
I never have noticed how good your writing is
      until today.
Keep writing Charlie, you are very gifted!

My favorite 4 letter words are:

      LOVE and

I have two “four letter words” that mean the most to me. They are Love, and Prayer. Without them, I wouldn’t have anything. They give me the strength to pursue the third one, and that’s to Help.

      Charlie,

Nice post and I must say that PRAY is also one where I cannot go a day without. Here are some of my 4 letter words.

      TRUE
      NICE
      COOL
      LIFE
      LIVE

These are just some on the top of my head. Hope it helps.

      cheers,
      Armand

    • Charles Kaluwasha

Charlie you are always stimulating and encouraging me.
My favorite word is LIFE derived from the bible,”God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that who ever believes in Him will have ever lasting LIFE”
Life keeps us living, doing what we want, without life we could not live. So making use of your life in a good way will make you useful in society… helping others achieve what they want in life is a wonderful gift. And Charlie you are a gift to all members of DOE!
Out of my favorite word LIFE, I created my online business-LifeOnTheNet7.com

      Hi Charlie,

      “Free”

No, I don’t mean free like, ‘Wow, thanks, oh mighty internet marketing guru for giving me your $5,000 course/software/entire collection/20-page-ebook for free.’

I mean “Free” with a capital “F” as in, “I am Free within my own mind to choose what I ought to do in life.”

Nice article, Charlie…thanks…hey, it was free too, huh?

      Aloha!

      Jeff

    • Mark Moffett

I love the article Charlie. A great theme and a very catchy lead in. My favorite 4 letter word is Word. I too love crafting words and enjoy the nuance meanings. The Word is Truth and as the God-Man (John 1) THE WORD is the Revelation of God Himself, both in Person and Substance. Today, so many of the problems in our Culture are directly related to the relativity training that has led people to a redefinition of terms so as to veil and hide the truth from minds that do not inquire and investigate their true meanings.

    • Richard

That was a COOL post Charlie!

    • Dave Anderson

X is for X marks the spot as in Focus. We all need to focus on building a business first instead of chasing all the shiny objects. A trait that I must admit I am guily of.

    • Judy Lee

My favorite word, or my most common I should say is huh! (The explanation point is a letter). Just because I am blond tis is not a blond commen). It’s the way I feel about alot of computer stuff I just don’t “get” or can figure out how to do on my own. So I feel blond.

Nice article Charlie! I would have to say, and without listing all of them, my favorite four letter would have to be “CASH” please.
