One Good Idea Can Change Everything!

by Charlie

Have you ever felt like you just cannot find that one thing that will help you achieve your goals? Felt like everything you have tried should have worked but, for some unexplainable reason, it didn’t work for you?

I know exactly how that feels and it is, candidly, miserable.

When a person feels like they have “missed it” they remain in a constant state of confusion. Every selling email from every Internet marketing guru creates the feeling that what they are selling might be the thing you have been missing and if you don’t buy what they are offering you will miss out and never make it online.

Every sales letter you read on websites becomes a possible lifeboat – the one thing that might be your last chance to make it online and enjoy the lifestyle everyone seems to enjoy … except you.

There is a name for this condition. That name is “information overload”.

Those feelings that you have “missed it” or that the next thing you buy will do the trick are what drive people to buy things they don’t need or can’t use, hoping against hope that this time the “system” will work and they will be set free.

If you feel that way today I want you to know there is good news. Very good news indeed.

I am here to tell you that you have not “missed it”. Your chance at succeeding online has not passed you by.

YOU STILL HAVE TIME! IN FACT, YOUR BEST DAYS ARE STILL IN FRONT OF YOU!

The sure cure for information overload – the only cure really is to break the cycle of confusion and learn to focus on one thing at a time.

Success comes most often when we commit, really commit, to one thing and give it our all. In the face of such commitment barriers are broken. Walls of confusion come tumbling down. And real progress begins to be made.

So how can you clear up the confusion and find the focus that will help you succeed beginning today?

There are two steps you must take to clear up the confusion and begin getting real traction.

STEP 1 – FIND THE RIGHT IDEA FOR YOU

STEP 2 – TAKE IMMEDIATE AND MASSIVE ACTION TO MAKE THAT IDEA HAPPEN

It’s just that simple. And it really works.

Thomas Edison had an idea about a way to bring light into peoples’ home and offices. Edison was willing to try and fail 1000 times before inventing the light bulb. So too must we be willing to try until we succeed. Edison could have quit but he didn’t. He could have moved on to the next invention. The man had one of the most inventive minds ever. You know there were hundreds of ideas he wanted to try. But he stuck with the one thing – his one good idea!

He could easily have reasoned that the world could live without the light bulb, but he didn’t. Almost certainly his friends and family questioned his sanity and did not understand his one good idea.

And we are all better off for his determination.

There are countless examples of people starting with an idea, believing in that idea and then taking the action needed to make that dream come true.

And now it’s your turn.

There is no doubt … the starting point of our success is ideas.

ONE good idea really can change everything!

So the first key is to have an idea, AN AREA OF FOCUS. An idea of what you want to accomplish. An idea of what life would look like if you accomplished this idea.

Some call these ideas goals or dreams or visions. No matter what you call it, your one good idea should inspire you. It should provide the energy you need every day to learn what you need to learn and work as hard as you need to work to not only survive but to thrive!

Your idea, or goal, might be to master the art of email marketing. Great idea! Now let’s take action to make that happen.

Your idea might be to become a top performing affiliate marketer. Great idea! Now it’s time to learn the skills necessary to get the job done.

Your idea might be to make a living working at home by providing services others need. Great idea! There is a huge market for these services. Now let’s find your customers!

There are many ideas of course, and the above examples are only a few of the many ways people can create their own success online.

The beautiful thing about having ONE great idea is the clarity it brings.

Once you know what you want you will no longer be tempted by what “might” work. You will be too busy learning and honing the skills needed to be the best in YOUR chosen field. It will be all too easy to say “no thank you” to the products and promotions that used to distract you and make you second guess your choices.

HOW CAN YOU FIND YOUR  IDEA TODAY?

Here’s my surefire method for coming up with what to do next.

  1. Make a list of your three best ideas – list your best idea first.
  2. Draw a line through the bottom two.
  3. Do the first one with all your heart.
  4. Put the list in a drawer. Once you have accomplished your first idea make a new list!

To help clarify my thinking, I always ask myself this question. “If there were one idea I could pass on to my daughter, what would it be?”

Once I answer that one, I go out and do it.

For me the one good idea is to serve my members. I shut down a profitable consulting practice and GAVE that time instead to DOE members when I added free consulting to the Directory of Ezines membership. Why did I do that? I have been asked that many times. The answer is simple.

Helping others succeed is my one good idea.

Now it’s time to take action.

HOW CAN YOU TAKE ACTION NOW THAT YOU HAVE YOUR IDEA?

In the many years I’ve been online I have experienced a range of economic levels. Since I’m not speaking with you personally, and can’t know your level, I’ve listed ideas to help for each stage of success.

I hope they help you.

===> IF YOU HAVE NO MONEY

It is hard to succeed online with no money. No doubt about it. It CAN be done but it takes work, focus and perseverance. So how can you begin to succeed online if you have no money to spend?

If you have no money and some time the best places to start are with article marketing and social media.

Start making connections with others who might become your customers in the near future or might share ideas with you now about how they are progressing in their journey toward success. Visit forums and find out what people need. Listen to social networking conversations and see what people need that they can’t find. And by all means ASK people what they need so you can offer it to them as an affiliate.

You would be surprised how many people make their first affiliate sale by asking the people they already know what they need and then offering them a product that satisfies that need. Everybody wins!

Here are a couple of other ideas.

  1. Introduce the people in your address book to your favorite product.
  2. Ask the people in your address book what they need and can’t find.
  3. Start an ezine about a topic you know well and build a list of subscribers.
  4. Write an ezine article. Offer it to ezine publishers and post it on article directories.
  5. Visit forums about your newly chosen business and learn from others who are on the same path you have chosen.

Can’t write? Team up with a writer and split the profits. They do the writing, you distribute the article and you share profits.

===> IF YOU HAVE SOME MONEY

If you have some money to work with the best thing you can do is leave the free methods behind and start learning about the world of paid advertising. Pay per click and ezine advertising are going to be your friends here.

If you have some money (and by some money I mean about $200) then you are in a position to see fast results. You can expect to spend part of your budget and get clicks to any site you want to promote quickly.

  1. Do some Pay Per Click Advertising.
  2. Buy three low-cost ezine ads.
  3. Start promoting a product that compliments your own products.

===> IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF MONEY

If you are among the few who don’t need to make sales right now count yourself blessed. You have the luxury of time. You can make a plan and see it through, knowing you will reap even greater rewards for your patience and thoroughness.

Here are a few ideas that might help you.

  1. Create the product you needed but could not find when starting out. Think about how you got to where you are, write up a book about how you did it, and give it away.
  2. Go viral – hire a writer to write a product you can give away and that can be branded
  3. Sell resale rights – have a product created and sell resale rights for 5 to 10 times more than the product would sell for alone. Provide buyers with the website, the product and everything they need to get started.
  4. Create a software product. There is no doubt about it, software sells. Hire a programmer to create a PHP script that does something you need done but have not yet found a great product to do. If you are an active marketer then looking at your own unfilled needs is the right place to start looking for ideas about new products.

No matter where you are today, if you take action on the best idea you have now, your situation at this time next month will be different. It will be better. You will begin to make real progress and no longer suffer from information overload. You will have focus and begin looking forward to every day as a new opportunity to move forward with your idea!

And feeling that way is a beautiful thing indeed!

Good Idea, Charlie. Speaking of good ideas. That may be the hardest thing , just to narrow down to one idea and see it through. Especially online, there is so much to choose from.

I felt more focused just reading your article. You are right. Nobody can do everything. Thank you for the complete recipe. And for all the help.

Hi Charlie,

I’m suffering from complete information overload, and hop from one thing to another like a demented flea! I’ve bought so many things and spent so much money, I feel very foolish and somewhat ashamed at constantly being taken in by the next ’surefire way to success’, when I know perfectly well that I have all the necessary info – I just need to put it to work! However, I’m beginning to focus and hope I can change my way of thinking, and concentrate on one method and follow it through to success.

Your articles always inspire me to press on….

Thanks,

Mary

Very inspirational post Charlie. Information overload is really one huge reason why beginners quit making money online with Internet marketing. I know that personally because I also quit the the first time I tried. Now everything is different and I’m just glad I decided to try it one more time. Thanks for this post.

Hi Charlie,

Just saw an offer in my email that I was going to check out…I thought “maybe if I just join this”. Your article arrived just in time to help me realise that what I’m doing Now is what is important. Thanks, focus and persistence and the second option of PPC and Ezine ads are what I’m going to focus on to build my business. Thanks Charlie!

The point about following only one good idea but attacking it with all your vigour is so true.

When I started out in AM (2 months ago) I had so many ideas that it was like trying to catch 6 tennis balls at once. The problem is, when someone throws 6 balls at you it’s unlikely you’ll catch any, but if someone throws just one, you’ll probably catch it, or come close at least!

Right now, I’m at the stage where the ball is half a yard from my hands – I’m getting into the right shape and position. Next week it’s time to clutch that thing from the air!

Hey Charlie,

You are absolutely right, with a new offer every day it’s so easy to get sidetracked. After many years floundering around doing everything imaginable and buying every product I could get my hands on, I now found my ‘Big Idea’ and do online marketing consulting for offline businesses in my local area.

I use many of the products and tools I purchased to increase my client’s online sales and profits, so in most cases it wasn’t money wasted, but I certainly had no focus or real plan that I could get to work.

I have everything I need to get my consulting work done now, I don’t need to buy anything else, but I was so very tempted to buy the Magic Bullet System that launched last week, because it offered that ‘easy money’ thing we all crave. At least it sounded easier than what I am doing now…

I didn’t order because it’s so far off topic and not related to what I do, and it didn’t fit in with my business goals for where I want to go in the future, but I got to the order page before I came to my senses. I guess Kern is good at doing that…

Thanks again for sharing your wisdom,

Warm regards

Rocky

Hi Charlie

Thanks for the article. I am a newbie to internet marketing and I have suffered from information overload. Your article has re-focused my thinkng to always concentrate and focus on one thing at a time, and not to jump form one thing to another which I have been guilty of. Thanks again. I will take onboard the information you have presented in your article, and I am sure it will help me enormously with my business.

Hi Charlie,
Thank you this timely article!
Information overload is the worst enemy that hinders progress for newbies today on the internet. There are so many “good offers” and promises out there. if one does not have a focus, one will end up jumping from one opportunity to the other.
Before I became a member of DOE, I did not have focus, jumping from one opportunity to the other.Hopping the new program will solve or give me more money. This cost me thousands of dollars with very little progress!
Now I have a focus,to become a seasoned affiliate marketer and help others to do the same as well… to achieve financial freedom

This might be the best advice in your article: “2. Draw a line through the bottom two.”

I really started making a killing when I learned about the power of focus. get rid of everything else and focus on one – just one – task at a time. Great post and I hope everyone reading it will heed your advice.
