When it comes to list building there is no easier way to go than with a blog of your own. Blogging is fun (and profitable) and a logical way to build your list. After all, you are truly giving before receiving. If you understand reciprocity and attraction, you know that sharing high quality content before asking for the order is vital. The good news of course is that you don’t have to create the content in order to share high quality content. We’ll get into that, and the all-important concept of content curation, in another article.
For now please enjoy this short video (it’s about 4 minutes long) on three ways to use a blog to build a mailing list of your own.

Hi Charlie,
Well as usual i am having a time here on your site. You are one i
look up to cause i wish i had just a part of your sprit.i would like to find a article on adsense ads. if i have to use them on my website or use something else.i donot have luck getting to them and i have an account. Thanks for everything thelma gravley……..
Hi Charlie, I really appreciate this information.
I don’t think I have the option of making the widget for the optin not appear on my home page. Plus, I can put an optin in the top banner, but it will also show up on all the pages. I’m using Socrates theme. Are your suggestions specific to the theme you are using?
I also like this check box for the newsletter. Nice!
Hi JC,
We are using a plug in called Widget Logic for this. It allows a widget to appear on certain pages but not others and is how we display the list building widget on blog pages but not the home page.
Hope this helps.
Charlie
Thanks Charlie
Wow salute to you Charlie , very much idea and way out you shared
to every body , make peoples understand how to do with their list , thanks for your quick course .
Nice tips there Charlie, I use two of the three you talk about but not sure if the prominent listing at the blog header is an option for myself due to design.
Dwight Anthony
Financially Elite Blog . com
I agree. But if you put a sign up form in your existing header you might see an increase in subscribers.
Charlie, Excellent information and resources on how to build a list. Thanks for providing some really simple but powerful ways to do just that. LOL…you mentioned the newsletter widget and I’m going to sign up..there it works
i agree with the placement of the opt in forms and staying away from popups. I know that becomes a controversial topic, but I want some one to sign up for my list and don’t want to annoy them.
Thanks again and I’ll be looking forward to more tips.
More to come very soon. I think a well-placed pop up can be both effective and helpful to readers. But the ones that trop the reader in an endless loop of “wait, don’t go” messages are just annoying. Thank you for your comment.
hi handy video thank you explained very well got some good tips
Hi Charlie,
thank you for 3 super tips.
As always, simple things work best.
I’ll have to implement the tip #3 asap.
My best,
Tim
It is the simple things, isn’t it? That and time can do so much. Thank you for your comments.
Hey Charlie.. nice tips about putting opt-in in different parts of blog. As you can see my website link i have just started my blog and now gonna add opt-in form as you suggested but i am using Imnicamail and i guess it don’t have widget option as you shared in your third step…
I’m not sure if they do or not but opt-in widgets that work with any autoresponder are easy to find on WordPress.org It is worth asking your provider however as they will want to know about customers needing that feature.
I will try to find if there is any widget available for Imnicamail similar to that “Sign up to our newsletter” below comments. And yeah thanks for providing great tips and ideas.
If they don’t have one a fellow named Robert Plank makes one as I recall.
Great tips as always Charlie!
Thanks Audrey. Always good to hear from you!
Hello Charlie great post just what I needed! I like to contact you look for my message on linked in.
Warmly Michael Cole
I’ll look forward to that connection!
Hi Charlie,
N-i-c-e
Thank you so much for these 3 valuable Listbuilding tips. I knew about one of the methods (widget), but that home page with method number 2 ‘stroll banner’, stretched across the top of page, cannot be missed or over-looked by visitors landing on ones’ blog. How awesome and cool this one lead method or invite is. All bases covered (top, side, & bottom). What is even more dangerously good is at the end of comment… ‘Signup to newsletter’ opportunity is right in ya face!
Thanks again Charlie. You are the greatest! Really appreciated this info…
For Real,
Bettie
Thanks Bettie. I like it when we can accomplish a marketing goal (list building) without resorting to technology that visitors don’t like and are invasive. Nothing wrong with a well-placed pop up but these methods are softer and work ever so well.
Charlie
Hi Charlie, Thank you. Everything you do is always great. I always pick up an actionable tip anytime I visit your blog. And… I just love this “The good news of course is that you don’t have to create the content in order to share high quality content. We’ll get into that, and the all-important concept of content curation, in another article.” I am smiling even now, LOL. Thanks Charlie. Keep em coming back.
To your continued success…
Looks good Charlie..glad I replaced my old blog theme with Genesis recently. You explained the benefits well. Like the e-course and sign up box at the bottom. How often do you email your list?
Thanks Charlie, good as always. I am now going to move and add to my opt in boxes to follow your advice. Nice.
Thanks, Charlie) You always provide quality content!
Thank you Charlie,
I must learn to implement all these 3 methods.
Regards,
Achmad K W
I like that AWeber widget

This is a very fascinating way to build a list.
It is worth the candle.
Thanks Charlie.
Raymond.
Very good information , I will try this very soon.
Charlie!
As always, thank you!
Be blessed,
Tony
Great again Charlie. Is there any place to just get a lead generation page to capture their email address and then send them to AWeber and start your autoresponder?
Randy S.
Thanks again Charlie. Wasn’t aware of the newsletter checkbox widget. You Rock!
I hadn’t noticed the 3rd technique before.. thanks!
Charlie,
I always like the information you give. Is it ok to share this with my list through my blog? I would like to share with them the information I learn.
Very nice clean short video, not that I mind the longer ones, but being that I was on the computer all day I am a bit frazzled. I like all these informative videos especially over the shoulder. I hope in the future we get to hear from you as to the use of Google +, LinkedIn, and a new social site that we are getting hit heavy with called Pinterest. Really any information you give us on any subject matter is greatly appreciated. Paul
Thanks Charlie! I always enjoy your articles and videos. i have to ask, what commenting plug in do you use that ask for name, email, and website? my comment section only ask for name and email. also how did you add the aweber widget near comment section. overall, the video was great.
Thanks Charlie
I’ve certainly seen these types of sign up boxes all over the place, however, I never considered a strategy for their placement.
It seems obvious, but nothing I would have thought of on my own I’m sure. After watching this I know I’ll never forget it.
I have been studying content curation in depth lately and am finding it very fascinating and possibly considering becoming knowledgeable enough to teach it and share it with others. I am that interested in it,
so I can’t wait to read what you have coming up on that subject.
Thanks again.
Johnney
Johnny,
Have you read Curation Nation yet? Excellent book. I’m testing some software that helps find resources for curation and that’s going well. I’m thinking of teaching a course on it myself but just don’t have the time. I will be sharing on the blog however.
Thank you for your comments.
Charlie
Yes I have the book and have read it and I am testing some software as well. Currently I am reading Robin Goods’ Real Time News Curation guide over at masternewmedia.org
Very interesting indeed. I look forward to reading your posts about this.
Hi Charlie, I was so excited to learn about this subject: list building with your blog. I have a lot of visitors to my decorating blog but no list building on it. I am so stoked and am changing my whole blog around to duplicate yours with my info! Thanks again Joan
These are some great ideas that I’m definitely going to implement. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Gerald!
