Are you a “good finder”?

I am asking you to do me a favor and read the first section of this message slowly and carefully. Thank you in advance.

One of my favorite people was the late Zig Ziglar.

This is a man who went from abject poverty to the pinnacle of success WHILE remaining faithful to his God, his wife, his country, and his principles.

Just consider how he started life …

  • Raised in Mississippi in the heart of Great Depression.
  • Father died when he was 10 years old.
  • Was the 10th of 12 children being raised alone by his mother.
  • Went to work at age 8 to help support the family.

Can you imagine how many boys of today would end up being the “world’s greatest motivator” with that history?

Ask any psychologist or sociologist and the answer would most assuredly be “none”.

In fact, my psychologist friends tell me such persons often end up in prison.

But not Zig. He rose above. And he brought countless thousands with him on his “way to the top”.

So what made Zig different? Why did he rise above?

While there are many reasons, I believe one reason stands tall.

Zig was a good finder.

What is a “good finder”? It’s a person who looks for and finds the good in any situation. Yes, any situation.

Even in our current situation with COVID 19.

Just today I went for my regular walk outside. As often as I can I walk in the neighborhood and a park we are blessed to have near us.

AND TODAY I SAW THIS ON MY WAY HOME.

These pictures are not staged.

They are spontaneous expressions of hope put there by the CHILDREN who live in the homes connected to the sidewalk.

As I walked, I stopped and soaked in the unbridled hope, joy, and peace that these messages brought me.

I marveled at the fact that these kids, home from school due to the COVID 19 quarantine, took the time to draw this out.

And then I prayed for them, my country, the world, and for you.

When I checked with the parents I discovered it was the kids’ idea!

Enjoy these pictures and then take up this challenge …

Before you go to sleep tonight be a “good finder” and find three things for which you can be grateful.

  • Even if you can’t pay your bills.
  • Even if, like me, you are very high risk.
  • Even if you lost your job.
  • Even if you don’t know how things will turn out.
  • Even if, like me, you have family members who tested positive.

The fact is, positive people prosper and get through better than negative people do.

But when everything you read, everything you hear, everything you see is negative, it’s hard to stay positive.

UNLESS YOU ARE A GOOD FINDER!

For good finders, there is reason to rejoice in every day.

Join me, and let’s find the good in all situations. Let’s lift each other up and show this evil virus what we are made of!

We will win. There is no doubt.

And winning this war is going to be one of the most beautiful things indeed!
