What Is Your Greatest Victory?

Zig Ziglar was an incredible man. Master motivator. Top performing salesman. Loving husband (married for 66 years) and father. All around good guy.

But did you know he was broke and in debt at 45 years of age?

It’s true. He went from broke and being in debt, always chasing the next “shiny object” to having worldwide fame (and a considerable fortune) in only a few short years.

So how did he do that and what can we learn from it?

While it is impossible to list all the things he did (such as being a master goal setter) there is one thing he did consistently that he credited as being perhaps the most important thing a person can do.

Let’s let him tell it, as I quote him from a series called “Strategies for Success”.

“To keep a healthy self-image you need to list, and regularly review, all of the major accomplishments in your life.”

Such a simple statement. But so full of power.

Zig went on in other teachings to expand on this idea. I paraphrase him with these suggestions, gathered from his books and teachings.

  • Write your accomplishments on paper and put them in your planner.
  • Have a regular weekly time when you can review them.
  • Visualize how it felt to accomplish (or experience) something important.
  • Know that what you face now can be overcome just like what you faced before was overcome by your accomplishment.
  • Remain grateful for those in your life who helped you achieve your goals. None of us gets to the top alone. Zig actually had a “wall of gratitude” with pictures of those who helped him most.

I believe in the process of listing and regularly reviewing accomplishments and milestones because I have experienced its power.

And I believe by sharing together our various accomplishments we can encourage one another.

Please note – these do not need to be about business or doing business online or money. There is so much more to life than that.

And know that not everything you list will be a pure “accomplishment” like winning a race or baking a cake. Some of our greatest joys and victories come into our lives as gifts from others.

To get you started, here are the top items on my list.

  • Married the love of my life and am still happily married after 41 years.
  • Raised two wonderful daughters who fill me with pride and joy.
  • Became a Christian and know that I know I will spend eternity in Heaven.
  • Became a member of the Directory of Ezines and bought the company less than 18 months later.
  • Became an Amazon best-selling author in less than one week.
  • Happily serve over 23,000 paying members to our various sites.

That’s a partial list. But it will give you an idea of what I’m talking about.

So please share – what is your greatest accomplishment?
